Timber filters out matching segments that AncestryDNA has determined are not genealogically relevant. It is not always 100% consistent so that may be affecting your matching here and eliminating the match with your father completely while allowing a small match to be reported between you two. I would not assume the match reported by AncestryDNA comes from your maternal DNA for that reason. I suggest uploading all files to Gedmatch.com for comparison. Their matching algorithms are similar to FTDNA's so you should be able to see the matching segments there. Good luck!Your Genetic Genealogisthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14696248341534125135noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4773058005679938889.post-26972357610146181392017-05-10T16:29:20.514-07:002017-05-10T16:29:20.514-07:00This is an older post, but with searches I have do...This is an older post, but with searches I have done today, I wonder if what I have encountered is a similar situation. May I describe the problem to you?

I have a situation which makes me think that AncestryDNA has made an error; I spent nearly an hour on the phone today, and only managed to talk to people who do not seem conversant with DNA terminology - they kept repeating patronizing statements that do not apply. I'm looking for suggestions on what to do next.

My father had autosomal testing at FTDNA. Later I had autosomal testing at AncestryDNA.
My father had autosomal testing at AncestryDNA. I had my Ancestry testing transferred to FTDNA.

At FTDNA there is a family group that we match.
The father matches my father at 46cM; his nephew matches Daddy at 48 cM; both now deceased.
The daughter matches my father at 55 cM (longest segment 17 cM); predicted 2nd-4th; x-match. All three family members match my father & I at the same location on Chromosome 1; the number of cM is a few numbers lower on their matches with me.

The daughter recently did autosomal testing at AncestryDNA, and just received results.

AncestryDNA states that the daughter is my match, at 6.5cM (!), 5th-8th cousin.
AncestryDNA does not show the daughter as a match to my father, at all.

I can understand that different companies do things a little differently, but it appears to me that they 'found' a small match elsewhere (perhaps even something in common with my mother's family); and completely ignored the matches on Chromosome 1 (without a Chromo browser, hard to tell).

What recourse, resources, next step should my match and I consider? (We have been communicating for some time, but our efforts are somewhat hampered by an adoption situation. She took the test at AncestryDNA in order to facilitate discovering our connection, so this is rather frustrating and disappointing.)
anitabhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00581214810248124603noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4773058005679938889.post-88222452545410469352012-09-08T14:39:40.703-07:002012-09-08T14:39:40.703-07:00Tim, George and CA Funshine - I obviously agree wi...Tim, George and CA Funshine - I obviously agree with your feelings on this subject, but I worry that contacting governmental agencies and commissions will cause unwanted regulation to our beloved genetic genealogy tests and restrict our progress toward our shared goals. I think what John was saying (and Ken in earlier conversations) is not so much that others want their data withheld, but that they have other things they want more.
